A family tree for the descendants of Kenneth Clifton and Myra Thelma Moir.
To understand this family tree you need to know that I have used two common genealogy numbering systems. The pedigree numbering system allows us to trace antecedents (forebears). In this tree I have used the number 2 for Kenneth Clifton. In the Pedigree numbering system the number of the father of a child is always double the number of the child (always an even number). The mother of the child is regarded as the spouse of the father and her number is equal to her spouse plus one (always an odd number). In this tree, Kenneth Clifton is the number 2, his father will be the number 4 (2X2) and his mother, the number 5 (4+1). This numbering system always us to trace our antecedents back indefinitely. Descendants are numbered using D’Aboville numbering system. This system uses dots between numbers to indicate the generation and child number of the descendant. In this tree Kenneth and Myra had 4 children together and Myra had 5th child with her second spouse. The children of both Ken and Myra will start with the number 2, this is followed by a “.” and the birth order number of that child. i.e. 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 The 5th child of Myra (father Arthur Robert Spencer Green) is numbered 3.5, indicating she is the daughter of Myra, but not Ken. The third generation will be number with 2 “.”s in the number. 2.1.1 etc.
Adoptions
Adoptions have been handled in two ways. In the case of a legal adoption the letter “a” appears after the number in the D’Aboville Generation charts. In the case of a family adoption (a child is adopted by a sibling of their parent) the letter “c” appears after the number in the D’Aboville Generation charts.
Existing children
Where a descendent of Kenneth Clifton has partnered with a spouse who has children from a previous relationship the letter “s” appears before the number in the D’Aboville Generation charts. While these numbers will be chronological order, they will be independent of the dynastic order. A descendent of Kenneth Clifton may have numbers that appear as 2.*.s1, 2.*.s2, 2.*1 etc.
Subsequent children
Where the spouse of a descendent has children with another partner after the children of the descendent, these children will appear with the partners D;Aboville number. and example of this is given above with 5th child of Myra Thelma Moir.
