6 Harry Searle

D’Aboville Chart

Harry Searle is not named on Myra’s birth certificate and we really have no confirmed information for him.

What we do know is from the memories of Myra’s cousin, Alma Moir. Alma published a booklet called Andrew $ Betsy Moir “Woolaganup”. A short chapter called “The Love Story of Mary” gives us all we know.
Andrew employed a fine looking young man, of swarthy complexion, with good manners at Woolaganup. It seems Betsy didn’t take to the young man and urged Andrew to terminate his employment. As Andrew found his work satisfactory, he was retained. Mary fell madly in love with the young man, named Harry Searle, and found she was pregnant. One day it was discovered that Harry just wasn’t there. The decision was taken that Mary would travel to Perth for the birth of the child, which would be adopted. Andrew travelled to Perth with Mary by train. One day, a few weeks later, Andrew drove the buggy home from Albany. In it was Mary and the baby. Betsy was very upset but when Andrew explained that Mary simply would not part with the baby, Myra was raised as Andrew and Betsy’s 10th child.
